Long-stay visa — free circulation in Schengen area. The Council of the European Union has adopted a European Parliament regulation which extends freedom of circulation within the Schengen area to nationals of other countries holding a valid “D-type” long-stay visa.

The length of long-stay visas cannot be over one year. This will reinforce the consultation of the Schengen Information System (SIS). The regulation will come into effect soon..
